| The long and acclaimed history of one of Memphis’ most prominent and well known Chinese restaurants began in 1978. The original Formosa Restaurant was formed from an old Corned Beef house on Summer road. The founders of Formosa: Edward and Alfred Pao, brothers who had immigrated from Taiwan, sought to create a restaurant that offered a variety of authentic Chinese dishes which were based on the recipes that they had watched their mother create when they were youngsters. The brothers also sought to offer a warm and accommodating staff that treated customers like family. Alfred and Edward always treated their customers like friends and invited feedback, whether positive or negative. This friendship and willingness to listen to their customers created a winning formula and after a few years, booming business and word-of-mouth popularity forced the brothers to build to newer and larger locations further down Summer and Quince roads. |
